my studio

snow day
Only good vibes in here ever. It's my favorite spot in the house by far, and the more time I spend in here the more time I want to spend in here. I love it.

Plants and art. Not much I can say here, they are two of my favorite things now beautifully combined on the wall of my living room. The fern is a White Rabbit Foot fern and its little feet just get longer and more creepily amazing all the time. The print is Urchin, whom I decided is patron saint of my craft corner and knitting needles, by Matthew Smith. And lastly but definitely not least, the spoon is Mountain Laurel wood and handcrafted by Dan Dustin, an acquisition a lifetime in the making and brand new to me. Completely exciting!

These three things all have a story behind them, great stories. I'm really lucky to have such beautiful things to surround myself with that remind me of how cool and interesting my life is. One of the many perks of being my own boss, I get to put nails in the walls to create a beautiful little ecosystem for living in. It's like magic.

the ballroom isn't light amazing?

on a dreary winter day one lightbulb can turn a drab black corner into an awesome little creative space.

future city garden

4.13.12
this lovely weekend db and i will be gathering plants and dirt to put in our mini garden! it won't be as glamorous as this, but you have to start somewhere right? probably flowers because i'm reserving the veggies for a larger container garden. it's going to make our courtyard a little less prison-esque... haha who am i kidding? it's going to be nice though, i'm pretty damn excited about it.

the least lived in place to live ever.

so this place is fairly rad looking right? i love exposed ceilings and hammocks. i just have a problem with the fact that a lot of these beautiful homes are not decorated at all. this place could look so cool and instead it just looks like it was vacant and they put a hammock in and a table and chairs to fake it for the picture. i'm not saying i like clutter (although the dioramas that make up 50% of the shelves of our bookcases would suggest otherwise), but it's hard to have a spot be homey if there's no evidence of people actually living there.

don't mind if i do

mixing a raw wood cabin interior with crazy colors and pattern clash is just about as good as it gets. throw a tent, porch and garden in there? perfect scenario.

pretty place alert

the list of beautiful little places in the world just gets longer and longer. from scandinavia with love is just amazing, everything looks so fresh and simple, it's very inspiring.

yay tent!

went semi-tent shopping yesterday after the man got out of work! while we didn't get a one, even if we had it wouldn't have been quite as fabulous and adorable as this. the tent in our future will be a start though, just big enough for us and uzo to go on awesome outdoor adventures!

one day in our back yard or off in the corner of the field on our summer property (i can dream right?) we'll set something like this up, complete with wildflowers and picnic. i've always loved tents and forts.

must. get. hammock.

apartment hunting while addicted to apartment therapy IS TERRIBLE. i want to live here and nothing else will do.

why am i not rich again? i need tents and hammocks!

pillowz

don't even ask me how i came across something from martha stewart, but here it is. aren't the pillows so nice? and the lamp? not that i even have time to do any of the making of things i'd like to do... but i kind of want to quilt some pillows like these. i must absolutely hate having free time to read and veg. there's no other explanation for my subconscious but constant search for the next 30 projects.

tv? what's that?

bring the outside in

it's lovely spring out there and i've been bummin' about not having a yard or any outdoor space at all. it looks as though that's not going to change anytime soon, so i'm forced to figure out how to make indoor city spaces more airy and light feeling... less far removed from nature i guess. i decided that things that keep the space from feeling too still are the best, movement keeps me from feeling too locked up. super light sheer curtains that move in the breeze and let tons of natural light in and plants, lots and lots of plants. i think the more delicate the plant the better too, it'll be more likely to react when you walk by or a breeze blows in the window. i wish i could just sit in the yard but until then i think curtains and plants will be the best bet. fingers crossed our next place will have a little porch or mini yard though, that would be amazing.

#3

there's nothing quite like one of auntie ema's legendary crocheted blankets. as you get older they get bigger. i have a yellow one i was given for my crib as a baby, a green, blue and creme one for my twin sized bed at home and now is this lovely queen sized one that will keep db and i warm and last until we die if we're lucky.

maybe if i am really cool someday i'll make amazing blankets as gifts too.

nooks

i've always loved nooks yet never actually lived somewhere that had one. i've always imagined one like this. a cushion, two pillows, a light blanket, a small plant and a book sitting in there. super nice.

teepee of wonder

throw a porch on this and i'd never have to leave.

seriously, life should be nothing but blankets, windows, birds singing and porches.

studio, sweet studio

i've always wondered what to do about my studio color wise. i want color, but white walls give the best light and a neutral floor is good because i tend to work with my canvases either balanced flat on two stools or directly on the floor. white and brown/grey are SO BORING though. i like this whole paint the ceiling a fun color thing. maybe when we don't have 14' ceilings i'll do it.

forest wonderland

i bet the best part of being in this forest wonderland is just sitting still and listening.

i totally want to live in a little brown cottage buried in the forest someday.
