paris intermission, because nail polish waits for no one.

clambake
so db and i went to the grocery store last night for the first time in probably a month and we're all excited to cook our fave meals again. on the way he was like "what's the one thing you're most excited about getting at the gs?" fully expecting me to say something normal and food related, but instead i squealed "NAIL POLISH!" laughed, and then said hot dog buns and something else dumb. i would say i hope we never grow up, but seeing as it hasn't happened yet, i think we're in the clear. FUN FOREVER! what a fantastic life goal.

i'm going to be honest, i have no idea when nail polish became exciting to me again. it kind of just snuck back into my life without me really noticing. my fingers were bare for probably over ten years and my toes were the same light pink all ten of those years, too. i threw out all my old slimy polishes forever ago but then all of the sudden last fall i decided i wanted a new color. i got lincoln park after dark which is a warm, very dark purple by OPI and ever since nail polish has been fun. for some reason in my nail polish wearing younger years i never owned a red though. i'm not sure if it's because i didn't want one or because i was a child and my parents didn't want me slipping down the path to dolly parton, but either way this is my first ever reddish nail polish. it's got a good dose of orange in there so it's still bright and fun, reds usually look really stale and flat to me but this one is like a neon red if that's even possible. clambake baby! now let's just try to ignore that the reason it's named that is likely inspired by cooked lobsters which is fairly gruesome.

now i've got cool colors for summer, warm and dark colors for winter and GLITTER. i think i'm done... right? eight is enough! i need the rest of my money for beer and bike parts.

more paris pics tomorrow!

paris! -the eiffel tower-

the eiffel tower, one of the coolest manmade monuments ever. i'd say it's top two with the pantheon in rome. i took so many pictures of it! and we even got to go back twice, once in the day and once at night to see it sparkle. it was amazing, way better than fireworks.
on the hour! the eiffel tower!!!!!! tour eiffel across the seine tour eiffel
three wine and cheese filled days in paris, how lucky are we?! it was cold and drizzly and foggy the whole time, but db and i were too busy being completely amazed by everything around us to really care, it probably kept the rest of the weaker hearted souls indoors and left more space for us to wander around unhindered. so thank you drear, you very likely made our trip more awesome (not to mention the eiffel tower possibly even more beautiful). a few observations we made are paris smells like amazing perfume, everyone is stylish and polite and all of the food is delicious. i would go back in a heartbeat.

Paris est magnifique, c'est vrai!

tour eiffel
oh my god, our trip to paris was unfuckingbelievable.

today i'm trying to pick up the pieces of traveling to a million places on two days' notice and prepping to make the philly-prov drive for thanksgiving tomorrow afternoon (we just got back last night at midnight!!!), but hopefully i'll have a chance to make up a really good post of the insane adventure that we had before we scram up north. seriously, IT WAS SO GOOD. i want to live in the eiffel tower, it is completely amazing. i don't know what i was expecting, but consider my mind blown.

in case i don't manage an adventure post in time, happy thankies my fellow americans and happy weekend to everyone :)

dirty doz: calico dress for thanksgiving

mccalls 3494
i'm making the dress with ruffles to wear on thanksgiving! isn't it cute? i've already got the rest of my outfit planned around it, i'm that excited about this one. i think the ruffle sleeves might be getting the ax so i can wear it under cardigans in the fall and winter because i don't want it to just be a summer dress, i can always make another with summery fabric and ruffle sleeves later if i want. isn't the fabric perfect for this pattern though? now i just need to figure out where around philly has the cotton thread i like using. looks like i'm going to have to go to a bunch of fabric stores, how horrible haha.

dirty doz: slight disaster = new orange cardigan

grace
well, i have't been having many adventures lately because db has been traveling for work and then we've both been sick for almost two weeks. nothing even remotely exciting has been going on, it's lame.

while in that time i could have easily finished my orange cardigan for thanksgiving, instead i tried it on when i cast off the body, it was too big and i very painfully pulled out a month of work to start over in a smaller size. normally i'm a champ about yanking stuff out but for whatever reason this particular one bummed me out enough to not start over right away. WELL, that turned out well because jane richmond (the designer of georgia which was the pattern i had just pulled out) released another sweater pattern named grace practically the second my sweater had been ganked. luckily, not only is it gorgeous, but it uses the same weight yarn as the georgia. sooo, i'm knitting the new pattern instead of re-knitting georgia. i've never really done lace before, but melissa from miso crafty knits told me the lace section was easy peasy so here i am... knitting the most horrifying thing i've ever tried. so far so good but definitely not going to be done in time for thanksgiving like the original plan. so, as to still wear something cute and exciting on thanksgiving i'm sewing a dress. it's going to be nasty cute i shit you not.

hopefully the weather will be good enough for pics this weekend, i made something fabulous two weeks ago but since then it hasn't stopped hurricane-ing or nor'easter-ing so there's no photo evidence yet. i must be so pale, i haven't seen the sun for longer than 3 minutes at a time in three weeks.

election day!

Untitled
i cut class on my 18th birthday to register to vote, and since then every 4 years i've worn all blue on election day and VOTED. i think it's vastly important to be well informed and make your voice heard, how can our government be "for the people" if no one tells them what's important to us? let's make it happen people! i really hope i get to do a little blue victory dance and be proud to be part of a forward thinking nation which cares for all of it's citizens equally later tonight.

happy election day!
