high bun

not that i would rock this outfit per say, but i love high buns, tights, coats that length and leather bags. change the color of that coat to anything even remotely fun and i'd wear this in a second.

knitting is awesome

oatmeal
bandana cowl

well these past three weeks have been fairly prolific when it comes to my knitting. i'd been wanting to try quince and co. yarn for a while because 1-every project on ravelry made with any of their yarns look amazing, 2- their colors are pretty rad and 3- it's made in the USA of american wool... which is awesome and a good enough reason in itself (to me anyways). i bought 5 skeins of puffin in honey to make the jane richmond oatmeal pullover and i LOVE the way it came out! it was nasty easy, totally serious. if you're afraid to try knitting a sweater because it's intimidating this sweater is the one for you. it took me less than two weeks of non-crazed knitting from start to finish.

then, lucky for me i had a whole skein and a half leftover so i had instant yarn to make the purl soho bandana cowl which i wanted to make wicked bad anyways. that took me less than a day to make. i had to modify the pattern a lot because the yarn is the wrong weight for the pattern but i put the notes up on ravelry if anyone wants to use this yarn and skip the math bullshit.

knitting is weirdly fun.

the tent, OUR tent!

this is the view from inside our insanely cool tent! here's the rest of the weekend that lead up to this point...

us powering up to wander the streets of freeport

the balls

and a creepy storage garage in a blocked off alley on the way to the bar that was full of parking meter heads

so we made it to freeport! it was awesome, i love our annual trip up there. we went to a rad little yarn store where i bought the perfect button for a sweater i finished last winter, ate delish pizza and beer, wandered the stores (including a mile walk in the pitch black to a knife store) and took a selfy with the balls. we got awesome sleeping bags and db got a head lamp. on the way home we stopped in portsmouth, nh to go to a bar db has been to a few times. no tent though :/

db knew how bummed out this made me so before i woke up yesterday he did online recon and we ended up going to ems and rei. rei had a really awesome looking big agnes 3 person tent and they said we could pop it up and check it out. we did, it was AMAZING and we bought it immediately. we set it up in the living room and hung out in it all day which was way more fun than it should've been.

i can't wait to go camping! this weekend kicked complete ass. i still can't believe we got a tent finally, nevermind such a hardcore one that's also awesome looking. i'm so happy we could use camping out for db's mountain bike races as an excuse to get this, now we can use it for tons of other adventures too which is so exciting. this thing takes like 3 minutes to pop up completely, i'm a total dork for it.

exciting weekend ahead!

by monday i will co-own a tent! i have wanted a tent my whole life but since i was a girl my brother got one instead. same deal with a gameboy and a swiss army knife. since i ended up buying those last two myself it's no surprise that i'm buying a tent myself, too. the upside is db and i can pick any one we want and it'll be waaay awesome and most likely more hardcore than we need. we're also totally getting zip together sleeping bags, knives (just in case i have to protect uzo from a bear of course) and pizza and beer. our long awaited shopping spree is finally here! we're going to have adventure gear, i can hardly believe it!

porch

does this count as living in the past because i'm missing the carefree world that is the summer? or as living in the future because i'm lusting for a porch like you wouldn't believe? either way, i will be sitting on an amazingly wonderful porch overlooking a wildly colorful garden full of food and flowers soon enough. until then i'm going to buy some new indoor plants. mine never recovered from being watched over when db and i went to europe this summer and i'm missing some serious foliage in my life right now.

with care

oh my god this is the coolest badge EVER! i want it. i really, really want it. i know exactly what i'd pin it to... whatever i'm wearing every single day. it's made in my lovely hometown good old providence, rhode island by a girl i know. i already have another badge of hers with a little painting palette on it which i love. i pinned to my little boys' blazer and it looks rad. check out her shop with care and ogle some of her classy lady goods.

the twenty ten is done!

so here it is, my freshly finished twenty ten cardigan by veera välimäki! this thing was so fun to knit. i had to learn a few new super clever and really useful tricks so on top of it looking cool i can use that info for other things down the line which is not so shabby. totally followed through on this post of things i love right now from this summer and nabbed these rad buttons from buttonalia on etsy, too. sharry is awesome, totally buy buttons from her if you ever find yourself needing fucking awesome buttons.

i love this sweater, i'm so happy i made it.

moths

i don't understand why moths are everyone's ugly butterflies. i think they're beautiful. they're awesome and are some of the coolest looking animals i've seen. "moth" is even a really cool name for a bug or for anything. why the bad rap?

valuable fowl

not that i'm currently obsessed with birds and poultry, but i sort of am. i know it's something no one considers when moving but i really want to know what birds i'm going to hear when i move to a different part of the city (like will there BE birds over there? because there are none here), or vermont, or colorado or europe. what will they sound like? when will they sing? in new hampshire at my grandparents' summer house we have the pipe bird which is my absolute favorite, and the "new hampshire bird" which i think is some sort of tiny thing with a particular call and a totally official name that i don't know. when dillon and i went to rome, florence and amsterdam the birds were the most noticeably different thing about their natural environment. the birds in rome and florence WERE INSANE! i have no idea what they were but they were super noisy and really entertaining. they would make a ton of noise and fly around and sunrise and sunset. i even took videos so i could record the screaming sounds and we could laugh about them pretty much indefinitely.

i hope we have cool bird songs to listen to wherever we go next!

why didn't i think of this?!

bark

this is rad, this is totally good enough incentive for me to not eat too many cookies this winter. over a bikini on the beach, with cuffed skinny jeans walking uzo, riding my bike to the liquor store for cold beers, lounging around our hotter than hell apartment... the options are endless!

how are crop tops so awesome?

cozy

i love cozy. i love exploding out into the world in the spring, but i think i equally love curling under up a blanket with tea when the dark cold of late fall sneaks up on everyone. it's a good time for watching movies, cooking good food and making big plans. i love being able to sit back for a half second and not feeling like i'm wasting the gorgeous weather or walking outside and breathing air that feels clean. not enough trees around here for leaves crunching under my feet but i'm sure i'll find some somewhere. i wonder what this weekend will be about, i've made zero plans for sunday and that always turns out awesome.

currently working on...

do i really need to tell you this is going to be a dog sweater? well... this is going to be a dog sweater. in my defense, uzo cruddifies his other heavy sweater whenever it's slushy out. he gets street grime on it and it never has time to dry out between trips to the puppy deucing fields on crappy days and he gets all wet and shaky.

i started this baby last january but then i started working pretty intensely on other projects and this got bagged and forgotten about until after the weather broke. i finished a person sweater (!!!) last week and my hands were like "where the shit is the knitting laura?!" so instead of blowing $ on more yarn i grabbed this. i can't wait to finish and see my pup looking like an old man circa the mid 70s, it's going to be hilarious.
