lakes

i want to be here. have you ever noticed how if you're on a lake at night it's eerily quiet but you can hear little echoes of things happening all around? you can never quite tell where the sounds are coming from, it's sort of magical.

"it's good to want."

i hate that saying. it's so BAD to want, it feels awful. it's almost wrong how much i want this upstate top. it's awesome for so many reasons! i love geometric textiles, i love cropped tops, it looks so organic, it's handmade in the US... i love handmade, plus it's classy as hell. i have SO few nice clothes, too. i've got a cute pinkyotto top with ridiculous cats all over it and a hound beacon crop top which i absolutely love. that' pretty much it honestly. i just want few more awesome pieces so when i have to look like i don't work in a bike shop more than one day in a row i don't have to stress out about how i'm going to conceal the fact that all i own are tank tops of various shapes, silk scarves (which i love and don't feel guilty about at all) and light weight cardigans in every color of the rainbow. it's boring! i'm trapped in my ultra-versatile and wickedly boring wardrobe!

i resolve to be rich enough one year from now to be able to splurge on something like this, even if it's a guilt ridden splurge. no credit cards allowed!

dreams

since i came back from my two most recent adventures a week and a half ago i've been having strange and vivid dreams every night. i sort of hope they don't stop because they bring attention to the little side details in my life that i don't consciously pay attention to. in these dreams everything is normal, the situations aren't anything too odd, but there's always one thing that's off. for some reason i'm never upset by it and just kind of investigate whatever it is trying to figure it out, usually it's been the wrong size.

last night was an exceptional case though. i saw my hair growing to be twice as long and enormously big (which was awesome) and the blonde streak had gotten so tangly that it dreaded in some spots... but not into a regular dread, into super lush towel material. it was cushy and soft and very organic looking. the weave was bigger and smaller depending, almost like the scales on an alligators back, and parts of it were a really light purple. i've actually been wanting to dye it light purple for almost a year but haven't for whatever reason. i was with db and we were swimming and lounging in Yellowstone's Grand Prismatic Spring like a hot tub and i was like "shouldn't we be dead?"

dreams are amazing. i never want to know why they happen, it might ruin the magic.

quiet

there aren't too many things to like about winter, it's cold, it's dark, no one wants to go out and mingle and it feels absolutely endless only halfway through, but i've got to admit there's something to feeling like you and whoever you're with in your little apartment are the only people in the world. you cuddle up under a heavy crocheted blanket with hot cocoa and look outside and everything is so still, it's like the world is sleeping. that and wearing crazy colorful tights are the only things to miss about winter.

i'm going to make a very good hermit one day... i'll still wear fun clothes at least.

chop to crop

one thing i noticed a lot of in italy was the number of cropped hairstyles, there were a lot and they were all super well done. i've had my fair share of super short pixie-esque haircuts but they never looked feminine and somehow all the women in europe just rocked them. note taken. when i'm ready to say goodbye to the braids i'll be going all the way with confidence i won't look like a 13 year old boy this time. the sartorialist caught it exactly like i saw it with this pic.

Atlantis STS-135

what is this you say? is it the Atlantis making the final space shuttle launch EVER into space?

yes.

my brother and i have wanted to see this happen since we knew we could. ever since 1994 when we went to florida to go to disney world being 9 & 7 and waiting to watch the launch from the hotel window only to have it scrubbed at 9 minutes to go (and being completely crushed) we've known we had to see one someday. well that day came JUST in time! bought the plane tickets wednesday, flew thursday and saw it friday! we finally got it together for the last one ever and it was a blast! it was out of this world! it was stellar! haha how many more puns about space can i come up with? you don't even want to know, it was an endless stream of them all weekend.

let's just say, it was more awesome than i was even expecting and i'm weirdly proud to have been there to witness it. i hope someday the US decides that ending the manned space program was a mistake and we can rally like in 1968 so our kids can have something amazing to be a part of.

home sweet home

back from our AMAZING adventure in europe! so much fun, so many beautiful things to look at, so many fiats! hahaha it was the best trip ever and we already decided that we're moving there if we can AND our next adventure will be to Algarve, Portugal. i can't even believe the art and architecture we were able to see! everyone has manners! the soda is made with REAL sugar!

it's official, europe is the promised land. this is us at the top of Brunelleschi's dome on the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, and our favorite bridge Ponte Santa Trinita with the best gelato in Italy, also in Florence. i'll post beautiful pics when i'm done unpacking and getting the apt back in order ie: a massive grocery shopping expedition! i think some popsicle molds are in order too.
