nooks

i've always loved nooks yet never actually lived somewhere that had one. i've always imagined one like this. a cushion, two pillows, a light blanket, a small plant and a book sitting in there. super nice.

babies are EVERYWHERE

the interweb has been completely flooded with babies and baby related things today, i find that disturbing. also, i don't understand why anyone would put a photo of their newborn online at a mere day or so old so complete strangers can see them. i don't know the two babies i saw today, or the baby in the pregnant woman (also weird) and i felt like i had no right to be seeing them and that if the baby knew this girl with a dog on her lap in far away providence rhode island saw them, they would be freaked out.

sorry babies, i had no idea what i was in for when i clicked on your mom's blogs.

too much stuff

well this is interesting, the wall street journal says that american's spend $1.2 TRILLION annually on things we don't need like candy and booze. while i've got to admit, i do love me some candy and booze... this is still horrifyingly wrong. maybe if we didn't all buy so much fluff we wouldn't ALL be in massive amounts of debt, including our federal government.

here's the article
americans buy more stuff they don't need

sorry i couldn't find the source for the image

UZO IS ONE!

today is uzo’s first birthday!

he would have officially been a man, but he was saved from manhood at the absolute last second by recieving a puppy bandana as a gift and being turned into a hipster instead.

easter!

looks like we now know how the cadbury bunny makes his eggs! easter is by far my favorite holiday. happy bright colors, every little girl has an adorable dress on, it has the best candy AND bunnies are involved.

how could any other holiday compete?

girls were fearless back in 1973. i can't imagine anyone wearing this today besides myself, and even that is a little questionable. i also have no idea how anyone could find enough time to sew themselves enough clothing to constitute an actual wardrobe. they must've just sewn sewn sewn and then walked to the fabric store for more fabric, they really just needed enough clothes to make that trip.

i guess if you're going to spend that much time home sewing something it had better be fabulous. that must be why they wore such fun things all the time. that and people would see them walking around because of the oil embargo.

goats make the best cheese

dreaming of goats milk brie and raspberry preserves baked in puff pastry served with granny smith apples and a french baguette.

yum yum yum

only one drawback; no leftovers for next day lunch. that's the downfall of most amazing dinners.

modern meadow

there's just something magical about buying 2 1/2 yards of gorgeous 100% cotton fabric, it could really turn into almost anything.

i just want to be able to sew and knit all day.

then and now

if my life doesn't involve a copious amount of flowers and nature by this time next year i'm literally running away. i took these pictures two years ago this week and today i went outside and all i saw was muddy sludge in the street and lots of broken glass. living in a mill building is cool and all, but the physical apartment is the only thing about it that doesn't suck. it's like "yay the birds are singing!", then they turn on the metal recycling plant's metal dust spewing fan that's like 20 feet from our windows and we can't hear anything but metal spewing fan. maybe someone should have told us about that before we moved in.

i just want to be able to open the door and it to go outside. not just any outside though, i'm not talking to a parking lot across a street and into another parking lot for a small patch of dog poop covered grass, i want a yard. i want a garden, two adirondack chairs, some shade and to hear the birds. i SO am not a city girl, this place is disgusting and noisy. in the summer when the plants are the most fragrant and wonderful all i can smell when i go outside here is hot dumpster. i'm almost dreading the nice weather. must design escape plan.

rain and dirt

it's raining on the first little tree buds and the soil is damp. it smells so good outside right now, i can't stop thinking about what cool plant related things are in progress. i know that there are books filled with lovely illustrations like these that i could just pull off the shelf and look at whenever i want, but i've yet to have one. maybe when the boy and i have got a little piece of land to get our hands dirty in i'll get one.

spring is magical.

teepee of wonder

throw a porch on this and i'd never have to leave.

seriously, life should be nothing but blankets, windows, birds singing and porches.

epic monadnock adventure

so this happened a month ago, but i was just lamenting about our current non-springish weather and decided to go back in time to real cold to try and make myself feel better. it worked, and i found these! db and i went up monadnock last month. it was cold and steep and we drank out of a "spring" that was really just a rusty pipe between two rocks. we made it though! it was fairly epic by my standards, db even took a pic of me next to the altitude carved into the summit as proof that we made it.

it was awesome, but i'm totally cool with not climbing a mountain next time if those horrifying murder boots are necessary.

the thylacine

just further proof that man doesn't deserve any sort of power over any piece of nature. these are the coolest animals ever and it was totally fine to shoot them for fun until they were all dead. want to see something haunting? the footage of the last ever living thylacine. it looks restless, almost like it knew how alone it was. i hate watching it, it's really sad and upsetting.

how could we do this? i'm just happy they had the presence of mind to document the systematic extinction of a species so we can learn from our mistakes... even though not many people have.
