i think this picture is just more proof that you don't need to play it safe with color or patterns at all. in our apartment we currently have a light chartreuse rug and two yellow couches in our living room. the yellows aren't the same, neither are the textures of the fabric, and one is midcentury inspired and the other is a legit space age salvation army miracle. we also have a bubblegum pink accent wall and a nasty large amount of plants because i've always wanted to live in the jungle. it may sound ridiculous, but i think it looks great. everyone should be able to walk into their apartment and smile.

rum magic

this looks so good. imagine all the cocktails you could make with grapefruit infused rum, so many. a little bite, a little sweet and all while looking at something as beautiful as this? definitely. i've been getting more and more brave to try diy magic in jars and this looks like step one right now

hello darkness

i can't have painted nails. i absolutely destroy them in one day and look like a crackhead by day four. i've always wanted to try OPI because i heard it was hardcore, but really? all i'd ever seen was shitty nail polish and shittier nail polish, so throwing down the amount of money that could buy me a kickass pint of beer seemed like it was unlikely to be a good call. even the chanel i got as a gift crackled off really fast. in a very long moment of weakness i bought this amazing color lincoln park after dark. it's not black, it's a very dark plum purple, either way dark colors are always chippy suicide. well... it's amazing. it looks awesome and is crazy tough, it looked brand new for 6 days!

i love this nail polish. i love how silly little things can be such treats.

love? hate?

ok, so i like curtains. i get a lot of crap from db about how totally unnecessary they are and i managed to lose the curtain war in our current apartment. normally i wouldn't have admit defeat, but the money involved in curtaining our enormous old mill building windows sort of put the knife in it. i also like silk scarves. i have an entire shelf in my bookcase just piled with my carefully curated collection of vintage scarves (i also get crap from db about that haha). they're awesome, i would say i wear them too often but i like them too much to care.

of course when i saw the meeting of curtain and scarf i had a mixed reaction of joy and horror. it looks so good! it's such a good idea! we live in an open studio and that would break up the space but in a warm and beautiful way! but then who would ever ruin those beautiful scarves?! why aren't they being worn and helping people all over not dress so damn boring?! disapprove.

so while i love the way it looks i could never do this. it's like urban outfitters' (i hate them by the way) new window displays of cut up old crochet afghans. those are meant to live in the back of your car and wrap yourself in when you pull over to look at the stars or to have an impromptu picnic on, not to be chopped up and then discarded when the novelty wears off in 3 weeks (like everything else at urban).

repurposing certain old things is just not cool.

mugs!

christmas shopping: done. these are fucking cute. mugs are probably the most under-appreciated tableware and i don't agree with that one bit! i LOVE mugs. isn't it so nice having your mug at work? or drinking a hot cocoa on the couch next to your significant other/dog/in progress knitting project? it is. so make it count right?

i'm considering getting a few custom ones printed with hearts and my favorite things on them. dorky? whatevsss

a curry sweater for puppo

i love puppy sweaters

so here he is, the man of the hour! finally finished his stylin' sweater after almost a year long hibernation. it's from the pamphlet "dandy dog coats" by evelyn clark and i'm not even going to lie, it's the third of this exact sweater i've knit for him in different colors. i figure hey, one for rainy, wet or slushy cold, one for dry or snow cold (this one, so it won't get nasty) and then one to forget places and not care too much because he has other ones. what a well prepared dog!

*here's a dorky fun fact for you, they always say boy scouts are the ones that have the motto "be prepared" but it's girl scouts, too. as a girl scout i never got to play with jack knives though so i think boy scouts with their knives, fire building, boat safety and general badassery are still far cooler.

strange things

when i'm walking down the street i never see things like this which is a bummer. i do see other truely strange and amazing things and write them down though. about a month ago i saw a man weed-whacking the lot that has nothing but the metal recycling plant's dumpsters in it across the street from our building in the pouring rain. he had his head down and was wearing a hoodie, not even a rain coat. it was weird. i took a picture which came out terrible because of the rain and the fact that i was hiding while doing it. the next day the entire lot was trimmed but it almost felt like a ghost had done it and it wasn't real. i think it's good to document things like that so i can jog my memory to the strange and interesting things i've seen in my life, forgetting is a terrible thing.

december 1

i always love the first night of december, it's officially time to decorate for christmas! i don't think i'll ever want anything other than bright orange candles in my windows and burn-your-house-down multi-colored lights on my tree.
