pom poms and dinosaurs!

this pic pretty much sums up the first day of my new awesome job! nothing that involves colorful pom poms in a glass jar or 20+ dinosaurs in a dish strainer can possibly be bad.

i have a very good feeling about this...

apple coasters

the purl bee wins the prize today for sure! check out these absolutely adorable felt apple coasters! these would make amazing housewarming gifts. what is it about late summer/early fall that seems so fun and appealing these past few years? i can't wait to go apple picking and make pies for my family, drink hot tea, walk on crunchy leaves and knit without getting all hot from touching the wool.

i'm starting to think i might actually like fall!

at least it's not drugs

hi. my name is laura and i'm addicted to deconstructing every knit garment with my eyes and figuring out how to/desperately wanting to knit it. i have the car today for once, what do i want to do? NOT go to the grocery store even though i'm starving, and instead go to not only one, but two different yarn stores. i've resolved to just stay inside.

ah! but bella yarns just got a shipment of winter bulkies! damn. i might go out anyways. this is becoming a problem. next i should post a pic of my massive yarn stash.

providence can be such a beautiful city. i happen to be where i once got run over by a rat but look up and see this, awesome. the moon was even out! new sky scrapers are nice and everything, but i love our old buildings, they're so cool.

his and hers

love it! shopping for vintage apron patterns is proving to be more fun than i was expecting.

lovely lovely late summer

i get really excited about the changing of seasons, even though i hate summer being over because it's never quite long enough to fit everything in i want to do. today there's a nice cool breeze here, the zinnias are in bloom and i even got to wear pants outside. it's the best kind of fall preview! it makes me want to knit sweaters, cook good hearty fall food and drink tea under a blanket. i know once fall is really here i'll be a little sad about it, but at least i've got a crock pot, tons of yarn, an amazing new teapot AND blanket.

rain

even though our view is a roof, it can still be beautiful.

pretty place alert

the list of beautiful little places in the world just gets longer and longer. from scandinavia with love is just amazing, everything looks so fresh and simple, it's very inspiring.

tart deco

just a little sumer treat. i've used solely maybeline "blushing bride" and recently chanel "ballerina" for 5 years, literally. i've been wishing for a nice soft coral for a wicked long time and today stumbled upon this one, i'm weirdly excited.

time to test it out!

nh craftsmen's fair!

go here, it's AWESOME.

better than knitting (which right now i strongly dislike but that's besides the point), snow and sunburns. sounds inviting right? barely i guess. well though i may be friggin' sour right now because of my most infuriating knitting fiasco ever, the fair is really really fun i swear. when this posts tomorrow i'll be there and eating a picnic at the base of a mountain with friends... hopefully in a decidedly better mood. maybe i'll buy the handwoven shawl i've been eyeing for years, or the cotton candy pink sheepskin boa. yay handmade retail therapy!

now i just wish i could set my ex-sweater on fire without getting arrested.

uzo's one year anniversary of living with us!

it's been an awesome year full of amazingly cute things and lots and lots of adventures. this year will be even better, i can tell.

fiat love

dreaming of Rome again. the cars were little, the people were stylish... those two things alone would be good enough reasons to live there, but it's also warm, the cheese is amazing, the art is everywhere and people are polite to each other.

i still can't believe we stumbled onto this pretty bit of dream life in an alley. even their alleys are nice!

braids braids braids

it's too hot to have long hair here. yes, the hundred degree week is over, but i feel as though it lowered my tolerance rather than raising it. i take uzo for a walk in the morning at like 8:30 and the sun already hurts my skin... it's a good reason to hide inside all day... and we don't even have ac. it makes me want to cut all my hair off, seriously, it's like a blanket for my head. it's too hot to wear down or even in braids! you'd think "ok then, no big loss. chop it!" but no, i just had to rediscover these pics. i wish i could figure out how to do this to myself.

oh to be a girl, what pointless quandaries i find myself in.

8.02.2011

yay tent!

went semi-tent shopping yesterday after the man got out of work! while we didn't get a one, even if we had it wouldn't have been quite as fabulous and adorable as this. the tent in our future will be a start though, just big enough for us and uzo to go on awesome outdoor adventures!

one day in our back yard or off in the corner of the field on our summer property (i can dream right?) we'll set something like this up, complete with wildflowers and picnic. i've always loved tents and forts.

salmon feast

remember a while back when i said i wanted to learn how to cook amazing and delish things when i came back to real life? well check it out! i made grilled salmon seasoned with cajun spices and tomato, avocado and corn relish! it was super easy and tasted shockingly good. i'd never cooked salmon before and it wasn't overdone either, thank you food thermometer. we don't have a grill so i used a thousand pound pan with ridges in it to "grill" over our electric stove and it worked amazingly well. success!

eating good food makes life feel so much more luxurious.
